The Pingxi District outside of New Taipei City is a great place to escape the big city for a day or a weekend. We took a two-hour plus bus ride from Changhua City to Taipei with the intention to camp Saturday night in Pingxi.
Getting to Pingxi is quite easy from Taipei. Jump on the Taipei MRT to Muzha Zoo; once outside the station catch bus 795 which comes frequently- every 20- minutes or so. After about 45-minutes you’ll arrive in Pingxi old street.
The area of Pingxi is beautiful! The hilly landscape is covered in dense forest- the air is fresh in contrast to Taipei. The area is quiet and you can easily set up tent where you like; we scoped an awesome camp spot down at the river.
The trailhead to the crags are not far from the old street, you’ll see signage at the trailhead for the crag. There are three mountains; Xiaozi Mountain, Cimu Mountain and Putuo Mountain and all can be hiked in a day. We spent most of the day Sunday hiking and hanging out on the mountains, for a weekend it wasn’t that busy and only came across a handful of groups of hikers.
I was wanting to scope out Pingxi for months and the crags surpassed my expectations- I would highly recommend. Pingxi Crag is very photogenic and a must visit for photographers.
